The scientific name for the cacao tree is Theobroma, in Greek meaning "food of the gods." Chocolate is a natural form of anti-depressant since it produces serotonin, a chemical that elevates the mood. It also contains copper, iron and magnesium - nutrients essential to the body. Dark chocolate widens arteries, promotes healthy blood flow, and reduces the risk of heart disease.

Greece is among the countries worldwide with the highest annual consumption per person (more than 4 kilos), with chocolate bars holding the largest portion of domestic consumption, followed by filled chocolate.
